Description:

FBA’s engineers helped Silverado with dropping 3 bent caps as part of temporary bypass bridge after the construction of the new Bay Bridge.  The 10 foot reinforced concrete columns as high as 110 ft and weighing about 2200 Kips were engineered to be weakened at the base and pulled over using excavators.

 

FBA prepared detailed plans for each bent cap, calculating the stability of the columns with partial concrete/ reinforcement removal at the base and the pull over force required.
